A well established part of the Festival and a lot of fun for all the family. Any tune will do so long as you can play it on the Paper n’ Comb. Official combs and Paper are available on the day.
50 years ago a wee music festival was held at Max Yasgur's 600-acre dairy farm near White Lake in Bethel, New York. This presented a model of a music festival that the organisers of Stonehaven Folk Festival have continuously ignored since its own inception 31 years ago. Festival organisers have always bleated on about the lack of a dairy farm in the middle of Stonehaven, but I say that shouldn’t stop us!
So this year in St Brigette’s Hall will be transformed into that very dairy farm as we pay tribute to Max Yasgur and his pals for trying to organise a Paper ‘n’ Comb festival that attracted around 400,000 people. Unfortunately, the original festival was hijacked by a bunch of hippie types, such as Carlos Santana, The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane and the like, who were more into playing amplified music than using the venerable instrument that is the Paper ‘n’ Comb. This year we are staging “Combstock” at the World Paper ‘n’ Comb Championship. Come along dressed as your favourite hero of the original festival – ‘Country Joe and the Comb’, ‘Blood, Sweat and Combs’, ‘Sly and the family Comb’, ‘Ten Years Combing’, ‘Jimi Andrex’, or any of the other Izal based bands of the late 1960s.
